Yield Ratio:

  • The 6 ounces in one of our packages will yield 52.8 ounces (over 3lbs) of hydrated material.

Preparation Steps: 

Rinse the sea moss:

  • Although we pre-wash before shipping, thoroughly rinse the sea moss to remove any residual material, like sand or salt. 

Soak the sea moss:

  • Place the rinsed sea moss in a bowl and cover it with water. Some people add lime juice to remove what they call the ocean smell and taste”. That is optional and it is subjective.
  • Let it soak for at least 6-10 hours. It will expand and become softer, our product yields 8 times the volume, so a pouch produces over 2lbs hydrated sea moss. 

Usage Options 

Raw:

  • After soaking, the sea moss can be dried and consumed raw.
  • It can be added to salads or eaten as is.
  • Sea moss can be dropped into appropriate hot soups or beverages.  

Gel Formation:

  • Heat the hydrated sea moss to form a gel, do not boil, use minimal heat
  • The gel can be used in smoothies, desserts, or as a thickening agent in recipes.
  • Also, a great skin care product 

Storage:

  • The product (raw or gel) can remain refrigerated for about 2-3 weeks, and about 6 months if frozen. Be sure to seal properly to avoid any cross-odors in the fridge

Grenadian Sea moss is responsibly harvested from the sea, not damaging or disturbing the coral formations. Most of our crop comes from St. Andrew, the “Big Parish”. This parish is indeed the breadbasket of Grenada because of its size and high output of local food and spices.
